Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested in learning more about storytelling, what opportunities are available on campus?

You’ve come to the right place! Check out our upcoming events on the Upcoming Events page to see if there is something that might interest you. In addition on the Storytelling Classes at UMBC page you can learn about classes that have a storytelling component within them.

I am interested in including a storytelling project in my class, how can I access support and resources on campus?

The Public Stories Lab hopes to have the capacity to support faculty in developing classes or class components that draw upon a variety of storytelling modalities. For now, the best starting place is to email publicstorieslab@umbc.edu with your request and we’ll see what we can do to support you! In addition to acting as a thought partner wtih faculty as they work to build storytelling classes and class components, the Montgomery College (MC) Digital Storytelling Internship Partnership (see the Off-Campus Partners page for more info) is an opportunity to welcome an MC student into a class as a technical expert to support digital storytelling in classes.

Are there funding opportunities for storytelling through the PSL?

Currently our only funding opportunity is the Public Stories Lab Scholarship. Please reach out via email at publicstorieslab@umbc.edu and we can help you think through other funding opportunities that may support your project.

Would the PSL be interested in co-hosting an event?

Very likely! Reach out and let us know a little about your event: publicstorieslab@umbc.edu

Is the PSL willing to co-sponsor events?

Yes! We recognize partnerships as core to our storytelling work and also recognize that so much incredible storytelling work is happening both on UMBC’s campus and beyond! We are also always looking for folks who want to co-sponsor our events. Please reach out to chat more about event co-sponsorship.

Are there storytelling courses on campus?

Lots! Please see the Storytelling Classes at UMBC page to learn more. If you teach a class at UMBC that has a storytelling component but you don’t see it listed there, please let us know so that we can add it.
